The western part of Manitoulin Island starting with Gore Bay is much more remote and quiet, compared to areas to the east. There's Misery Bay Provincial Park, and Julia Bay swimming beach. Meldrum Bay Inn is in a beautiful location at the western end of the Island. The hotel is beautiful, the food excellent and the hostess wonderful.
